FINALE DE L’OPEN DE FRANCE 2023 : UN GRAND MOMENT DE POLO
Dix-huit équipes au départ, huit chez les femmes, deux (fois deux) à l’arrivée. Après une flamboyante phase de qualification (50 matchs) qui a donné lieu à de sublimes empoignades pendant trois semaines, ce sont quatre belles équipes qui se sont affrontées dimanche après-midi à la Ferme d’Apremont, siège du Polo Club de Chantilly devant… beaucoup de monde ! Des Opens de France assurément réussi qui ont consacré TTR Sotheby’s chez les femmes et Kazak chez les hommes au terme d’un match d’une intensité folle qui s’est décidé en prolongations. Deux finales qui vont marquer les esprits et qui écrivent un nouveau beau chapitre dans l’histoire de l’Open de France.

UN Premier titre pour Kazak
Cela fait quatre ans que Kazak est engagée et cette magnifique équipe décroche dimanche à Apremont son premier titre, l’un des plus convoités du circuit international. Un match d’une incroyable densité et d’une qualité de polo du plus niveau grâce à des chevaux digne de Palermo. D’un bout à l’autre du match, les équipes se sont rendu coup pour coup, aucune ne réussissant à prendre clairement le dessus. Et comme c’est souvent le cas dans ces matchs aussi équilibrés, c’est en période supplémentaire que s’est décidé le 23ème Open de France. Sur une passe décisive de Nico Pieres, c’est Antonio Heguy qui inscrivait le goal en or sous les yeux de son père, une légende du polo, Pepe Heguy. Pour Nico Pieres, c’était la première participation à l’Open de France et première victoire : « Heureux, évidement, mais je suis surtout heureux pour cette belle équipe de Kazak qui a su se donner les moyens de remporter ce titre en investissant dans les bons chevaux. C’était un match très compliqué à gagner, mais je savais que cela allait être dur car j’ai regardé les matchs d’Amanara. Je savais que le score allait être très serré. En période supplémentaire, il fallait savoir rester patient, ne pas précipiter et cela a fonctionné. C’est la première fois que je joue un polo de ce niveau, et la première fois que je joue un tournoi avec dix-huit équipes et j’ai été surpris par le niveau de polo qui s’est joué sur ce tournoi. Une bonne préparation pour la Triple-Couronne argentine vers laquelle je m’envolerai dès demain, mais pour l’instant, je ne veux pas y penser car nous allons célébrer ce soir cette victoire française comme il se doit ».

Avec trois des quatre meilleures joueuses du monde, ayant toute remporté l’Open d’Argentine, le graal de ce sport, tant chez les femmes que chez les hommes, l’épreuve française a atteint un niveau exceptionnel pour sa 12ème édition. À la fin, ce sont les deux handicaps 10 anglaises qui se sont retrouvées face à face comme à Palermo (stade du championnat argentin) l’an dernier et comme à Chantilly en 2018 ! Un match qui a mis du temps à démarrer, puis qui s’est emballé en troisième période. La promesse de lutte intense entre les deux Anglaises a tenu ses promesses, mais à la fin, c’est l’expérience de Nina Clarkin qui a eu le dernier mot : « C’était un grand tournoi cette année avec de très bonnes équipes. Certains matchs étaient très rudes comme cette finale, mais c’est un tournoi fantastique avec une très grande organisation, confiait la meilleure joueuse du monde. Notre chance a été de pouvoir amener nos propres chevaux ici. C’était vraiment une belle semaine d’autant qu’elle se termine par une victoire. Un match contre Hazel est toujours un moment difficile, c’est une grande joueuse, très combattive. Il a vraiment fallu se battre. Elles ont pris le dessus en début de match, nous avons redressé la situation en fin de deuxième période pour garder. La petite Margaux (Guillemin) nous a bien aidées, c’est une bonne surprise. Nous avions besoin d’une quatrième joueuse de 0 de handicap, l’organisation nous a proposé cette jeune française qui a beaucoup de talent et que nous ne connaissions pas du tout : mais je pense qu’elle ne va pas rester longtemps inconnue ». Comme les hommes, Nina va désormais tourner son regard vers l’Argentine où elle ira défendre son titre avec La Dolfina aux côtés de Mia Cambiaso : « J’ai toujours beaucoup de plaisir à jouer là-bas avec cette équipe d’autant que je dispose là-bas de chevaux de grande qualité. L’Open d’Argentine est désormais mon objectif de fin de saison ».
Trophée Castel : bataille de juniors et victoire pour Mustang Polo Team

Ce jour de fête s’est terminé par un joli bonus, la finale du Trophée Castel qui mettait aux prises deux équipes françaises et notamment deux juniors grands espoirs du polo français. Un règlement de compte entre deux copains d’enfance, Elouan Badarello et Ulysse Eisenchteter, ainsi que sa sœur Noémie qui a tourné à l’avantage du premier auteur de deux magnifiques goals importants puisque Mustang Polo Team décrochait cette dernière victoire de ces magnifiques trois semaines avec le plus petit écart. Elouan sera nommé meilleur joueur de la finale : une belle récompense – une de plus – pour ce jeune joueur français qui a ébloui la saison 2023.
Quant aux champions argentins et championnes anglaises, ils vont donc dès demain reprendre la route, ou plutôt l’avion vers l’Argentine où les attendent les tournois de la Triple-Couronne, le pic de la saison internationale se terminant en apothéose avec les Opens d’Argentine. L’Abierto masculin est réservé aux dix meilleures équipes du monde, donc aux quarante meilleurs joueurs du monde : quatorze d’entre eux étaient à Chantilly ce qui situe l’Open de France sur la carte mondiale du polo de haut niveau. Une petite larme pour les départs de ces joueurs, chevaux et petiseros qui ont animé et apporté tant de joies au Polo Club de Chantilly qui va progressivement retrouver sa configuration hivernale. Progressivement car vont encore se jouer dès la semaine prochaine les Championnats e France qui marquent la clôture de la saison sur herbe.e

2023 FINAL OPEN DE FRANCE: A POLO HIGHLIGHT
Eighteen teams at the start, eight in the women's category, and two (times two) at the finish line. After a flamboyant qualifying phase (50 games) that gave rise to some sublime battles over three weeks, four fine teams faced each other on Sunday afternoon at the Ferme d'Apremont, home of the Chantilly Polo Club, in front of... a lot of people! The French Open was a resounding success, with TTR Sotheby in the women's category and Kazak in the men's category coming out on top after a game of insane intensity that went into extra time. Two finals that will be remembered for a long time writing a new chapter in the history of the Open de France.

First title for Kazak
Kazak has been competing for four years now and this magnificent team won its first title, one of the most coveted on the international circuit, in Apremont on Sunday. An incredibly intense game and polo of the highest quality, thanks to some horses worthy of Palermo. From one end of the game to the other, the teams gave blow for blow, none of them managing to get the upper hand. And as is often the case in such evenly matches, it was in extra time that the 23rd Open de France was decided. After a decisive pass from Nico Pieres, Antonio Heguy scored the golden goal in front of his father, polo legend Pepe Heguy. For Nico Pieres, it was his first participation in the Open de France and his first victory: "I'm happy, obviously, but I'm especially happy for this fine Kazak team, who gave themselves the means to win this title by investing in the right horses. It was a very complicated game to win and I knew it was going to be tough because I have watched Amanara's games. I knew the score was going to be very close. In the extra chukker, I had to be patient and not rush things and that worked. It is the first time I have played polo at this level, and the first time I have played a tournament with eighteen teams, and I was surprised by the level of polo that was played here. It is a good preparation for the Argentinian Triple Crown, which I will be flying to tomorrow, but for the moment I don't want to think about that because tonight we are going to celebrate this French victory as we should.”

With three of the four best female players in the world, all of whom have won the Argentine Open, the pinnacle of the sport for both men and women, the Women’s Open de France reached an exceptional level for its 12th edition. In the end, it was the two English female 10-goalers who came face to face, just as they did in Palermo (the Argentine championship stadium) last year and in Chantilly in 2018! It took a while for the game to get going and it really took off in the third chukker. The promise of an intense battle between the two Englishwomen was fulfilled, but in the end, it was Nina Clarkin's experience that sealed the deal: "It was a great tournament this year with some very good teams. Some of the games were very tough, like this final, but it is a fantastic tournament with a great organization," said the world's best female player. “We were lucky enough to be able to bring our own horses here. It was a really great week, especially as it ended with a win. A game against Hazel is always difficult, she is a great player and very combative. We really had to fight. They got the better of us at the start of the game, but we recovered at the end of the second half to hold on. Little Margaux (Guillemin) has really helped us and she is a great surprise. We needed a fourth player with a handicap of 0 and the organizers suggested us this young Frenchwoman who has a lot of talent and whom we didn't know at all: but I don't think she'll remain unknown for long.” Like the men, Nina will now turn her attention to Argentina, where she will be defending her title with La Dolfina alongside Mia Cambiaso: "I always enjoy playing over there with this team, especially as I have some top quality horses over there. The Argentine Open is now my goal for the end of the season.”
Trophée Castel: battle of the juniors and victory for Mustang Polo Team
This festive day ended with a nice bonus: the final of the Trophée Castel, which pitted two French teams against each other, and in particular two juniors with great hopes for the future of French polo. The battle between two childhood friends, Elouan Badarello and Ulysse Eisenchteter, as well as his sister Noémie, was won by the former, who scored two magnificent and important goals, as Mustang Polo Team took the last victory of these magnificent three weeks by the narrowest of margins.
Most of these champions will be back on the road tomorrow, or rather on the plane to Argentina, where the Triple Crown tournaments await them, the peak of the international season ending in apotheosis with the Argentine Opens, reserved for the ten best teams in the world, and therefore the forty best players in the world: fourteen of them were in Chantilly, which puts the Open de France on the world map of top-level polo. We are a little sad to see these players, horses and petiseros who have brought so much joy to the Chantilly Polo Club leave, letting the club gradually return to its winter structure. But only gradually as next week the French Championships are starting, marking the end of the green season.
