Polo Nations Cup and more : le printemps s’annonce très international à Chantilly !
« Un handicap de polo est un passeport pour le monde » clamait Sir Winston Churchill, lui-même excellent joueur de polo il y a un siècle avant qu’il ne décrète « cigars, whisky and no sport », quand plus tard, on lui demandait le secret de sa longévité (il est mort à 90 ans, en 1965). Si la dernière citation n’est sans doute qu’une légende urbaine qu’on lui attribue sans certitude, la première est bien authentique et vérifiée par les faits. Le polo invite au voyage et ouvre des portes sur le monde. À Chantilly, au printemps, c’est le monde qui converge vers le Polo Club du Domaine de Chantilly à Apremont. L’ouverture de la saison de haut niveau s’annonce particulièrement internationale !
Etats-Unis, Allemagne, Angleterre, Italie, Suisse, Corée du Sud, Pakistan, Pays-Bas et bien sûr France et Argentine… toutes ces nations seront représentées à Chantilly pour le lancement de la saison internationale hexagonale. Avec ses neuf terrains en herbe d’excellente qualité, dont la réputation a été boostée ces dernières années avec l’organisation particulièrement réussie de l’Open de France, Chantilly attire, Chantilly séduit et Chantilly propose ainsi du beau polo.
Bien sûr, la toute nouvelle Coupe des nations, la Polo Nations Cup, a principalement suscité cet intérêt planétaire : elle enregistre dix engagements d’équipes représentant une nation ou une grande région du monde. Les États-Unis seront ainsi représentés par une équipe aux couleurs de la Californie et une autre de l’Illinois, l’Allemagne par la ville hanséatique de Hambourg et l’état de Bavière, la France par les régions d’Ile de France, de Normandie et de la Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur, tandis que la Suisse et la Corée du Sud (une première en Europe) joueront sous leurs drapeaux nationaux. Une confirmation est en attente concernant la dernière équipe.
Mais ce ne sera pas tout puisque la traditionnelle Triple-couronne du Printemps qui se joue au même niveau que la Polo Nations Cup, « gardera » quelques-unes de ces équipes et en accueillera d’autres, plus traditionnelles, mais également une formation nationale du Pakistan, qui dix-neuf ans après le Championnat du monde qui s’était joué à Chantilly (2004), reviendra « taquiner » les magnifiques terrains de la Ferme d’Apremont. Une autre équipe allemande, la Schockemöhle Polo Team (un nom célèbre dans les sports équestres, il s’agit ici de l’organisation de la fille d’Alwin Schockemöhle, cavalier de légende) et une formation néerlandaise, la Polo Team Amsterdam, rejoindront notamment ces tournois.
Ainsi, à partir du 5 mai, et jusqu’au 25 juin, avec cette Polo Nations Cup en point d’orgue du 8 au 18 juin, c’est du « full polo » que propose le Polo Club de Chantilly qui va retrouver une activité grouillante avec environ huit-cents chevaux sur site. Car à côté de ces quatre tournois majeurs, cinq autres tournois se disputeront en même temps dont deux mettant les femmes à l’honneur. Des femmes de plus en plus présentes dans ce sport et dont le niveau augmente sans cesse et qui prépareront à travers ces deux tournois le premier Championnat de France de la saison, le féminin donc, du 1er au 9 juillet.
Au-delà du sport, le Polo à Chantilly est une expérience en soi : découverte d’une ambiance argentine, matchs en semaine dans une atmosphère plus intimiste avant le crépuscule (avec food-truck, le célèbre Tacos Bar), rencontre avec les acteurs, grooms ou joueurs, toujours disponibles (après les matchs), matchs commentés par un spécialiste argentin francophone au charmant accent latino, initiations au polo sur chevaux de bois les jours de finale où un village accueille les visiteurs (Polo Nations Cup) avec stands de sellerie, de produits argentins ou lifestyle et food-trucks. Et la fête ne s’arrêtera pas là puisque le Polo Club annonce déjà un nombre record d’équipes engagées pour l’Open de France qui se jouera en septembre comme de tradition. Un nombre maximum possible de participants déjà atteint en 2021 et en 2022 avec une qualité de chevaux et de joueurs digne des meilleurs tournois d’Argentine. Stay tuned…

A VERY INTERNATIONAL SPRING IN CHANTILLY!

If the last quote probably is more of an urban myth attributed to him without certainty, the first one is quite authentic and confirmed by history. Polo invites you to travel and truly opens doors to the world. This spring in Chantilly, it is the world that will gather on the Polo Club du Domaine de Chantilly in Apremont as the opening of the high season promises to be particularly international!
The United States, Germany, England, Switzerland, South Korea, Pakistan, the Netherlands and of course France and Argentina... all these nations will be represented in Chantilly for the launch of the international season in France. With its nine excellent grass fields, whose reputation has been boosted in recent years with the particularly successful organization of the French Open, Chantilly attracts, Chantilly seduces and Chantilly offers beautiful polo.
Of course, the newly created Polo Nations Cup has been the main focus of this global interest, with nine team entries representing a nation or a region of the world. The United States will be represented by a team from California and another from Illinois, Germany by the Hanseatic city of Hamburg and the state of Bavaria, Franceby the regions of Ile-de-France, Normandy and Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, while Switzerland and South Korea (a first in Europe) will play under their national flags. Confirmation is pending for one final team.
But that's not all, because the traditional Spring Triple Crown, which is played at the same level as the Polo Nations Cup, will "keep" some of these teams and will welcome others, mainly more traditional, but also a national team from Pakistan which, nineteen years after the World Championship that was played in Chantilly (2004), will return to "tease" the beautiful fields of the Apremont Farm. Another German team, the Schockemöhle Polo Team (a famous name in equestrian sports, this is the organization of the daughter of Alwin Schockemöhle, a legendary horseman and showjumping Olympic champion) and a Dutch team, the Polo Team Amsterdam, will join these tournaments.
Thus, from May 5 to June 25, with the Polo Nations Cup as a highlight from June 8 to 18, the Chantilly Polo Club will be offering a "full polo" event with approximately eight hundred horses on site. In addition to these four major tournaments, five other tournaments will be held at the same time, two of which will focus on women. (see complete program below, not counting the low-goal tournaments which will be played at the same time!)
Beyond the sport, Polo at Chantilly is an experience in itself: discovery of an Argentinean atmosphere, games during the week in a more intimate atmosphere before sunset (with a food-truck, the famous Tacos Bar), encounters with players, grooms or players, always available (after the games), matches commented by a French-speaking Argentinean specialist with a charming Latin accent, polo initiations on wooden horses on the days of the finals where a village welcomes visitors (Polo Nations Cup) with saddlery, Argentinean products or lifestyle stands and food-trucks. And the party won't stop there, as the Polo Club is already announcing a record number of teams entered in the French Open, which will be played in September, as is tradition. The maximum possible number of participants has already been reached in 2021 and 2022 with a quality of horses and players worthy of the best Argentinean tournaments. Stay tuned...
