Un grand Open de France - Le point sur la première semaine !
Le match de mardi soir qui opposait à Chantilly les deux frères Jeta et Barto Castognola, à travers leurs équipes de Talandracas et des Lions Panarea, restera à jamais gravé dans les mémoires. « Le plus beau match de l’histoire du club », « La plus belle rencontre jamais jouée en France depuis des décennies », « Une vitesse incroyable, des chevaux de rêves ». Le public, plutôt nombreux pour un mardi, est reparti de ce match d’anthologie avec des étoiles dans les yeux.

29 goals en 5 chukkers, des actions extra-terrestres motivées par la concurrence saine entre les deux frères Castagnola qui jouaient pour la première fois l’un contre l’autre. 8 goals de Barto, 10 de Jeta qui aurait pu prolonger la fête s’il avait rentré cette pénalité de 30 yards à 30" de la fin… alors qu’il avait enfilé comme des perles toutes les pénalités à 60 yards et autres corners qu'il voulait ! « Ce match méritait une prolongation », regrettait le manager de Talandracas, Santiago Gastambide. Du grand spectacle. Le polo a franchi un nouveau cap à Chantilly.
C’était donc la première fois que les deux frères de 16 et 18 ans, parfaitement formatés par leur père, Lolo Castagnola, ancien handicap 10 et back de La Dolfina, se retrouvaient face à face. Une découverte : « je ne savais pas que Jeta jouait aussi bien, j’ai eu un mal de chien à le contrer », a confié l’homme du match, Barto Castagnola à son manager. Mignon ! Les deux frères, qui demain seront une légende de ce sport, sont mordus à souhait. Lorsqu’ils ne jouent pas, ils vont assister à tous les matchs possibles se déroulant actuellement au club*, même le low-goal, au cas où il y aurait un cheval à dénicher, ils saisissent toutes les occasions d’essayer des chevaux ou de jouer des practices avec des chevaux d’emprunt. Pas le temps pour la PlayStation !
Si ce match a été le moment fort de cet Open, mais aussi de la vie du club, les autres rencontres n’ont pas déçu pour autant, au contraire. Avec 11 joueurs du niveau de l’Open d’Argentine, on a eu de quoi se régaler depuis le coup d’envoi, vendredi dernier, où Marquard Media prenait sa revanche de la Coupe d’Or de Deauville en infligeant un cinglant 13 – 8 aux Espagnols de Marqués de Riscal (qui signaient ensuite une victoire dimanche face à Sainte-Mesme).
Une autre équipe fait également grosse impression : celle de la Hollandaise Nicky Sen, avec notamment l’ancien handicap 9 et demi-finaliste de l’Open d’Argentine (avec Pilara), Santiago Chavanne. Amanara a remporté clairement ses deux matchs face à Le Pommeray (11-8) et à Sainte-Mesme (9 -4) qui perdait là sa deuxième rencontre du tournoi.
Rendez-vous maintenant vendredi pour trois autres matchs : Talandracas qui affrontera cette équipe hollandaise Amanara – encore un choc (15H00) ; à 13H00, ni Majoa Paris, ni Sainte-Mesme n’aura le droit à l’erreur ; et à 16H30, ce sera chaud pour Marquard Media, invaincu pour l’instant qui rencontrera… Les Lions Panarea ! A great French Open!
The match on Tuesday evening which opposed the two brothers Jeta and Barto Castognola in Chantilly, through their teams of Talandracas and Les Lions Panarea, will remain forever engraved in memories. "The most beautiful match in the history of the club", "The most exciting game ever played in France for decades", "Incredible speed, dream horses". The public, rather numerous for a Tuesday, left this match of anthology with stars in their eyes.
29 goals in 5 chukkers, extraterrestrial actions motivated by the healthy competition between the two Castagnola brothers who were playing against each other for the first time. 8 goals from Barto, 10 from Jeta who could have extended the party if he has scored that 30-yard penalty at 30" from the end... when he had strung on like pearls all the 60-yard penalties and other corners he wanted! "This game deserved an overtime," lamented Talandracas' manager Santiago Gastambide. A great show. Polo has crossed a new milestone in Chantilly.
It was the first time that the two brothers, aged 16 and 18, perfectly trained by their father, Lolo Castagnola, former handicap 10 and back of La Dolfina, were face to face. A discovery: "I didn't know Jeta played so well, I had a hard time countering him", confided the man of the match, Barto Castagnola to his manager. Sweet! The two brothers, who tomorrow will be a legend in this sport, are bitten to the bone. When they're not playing, they go to every possible match currently taking place at Chantilly Polo Club*, even the low-goal games, in case there's a horse to be found, they take every opportunity to try out horses or play practices with borrowed horses. No time for PlayStation!
If this match was the highlight of this Open, but also of the club's life, the other matches did not disappoint, on the contrary. With 11 players of the level of the Argentine Open, we had something to enjoy since the kick-off last Friday, when Marquard Media took its revenge for the Deauville Gold Cup final by inflicting a bitter 13 - 8 on the Spaniards of Marqués de Riscal (who then signed a victory on Sunday against Sainte-Mesme).
Another team also makes a big impression: that of the Dutch Nicky Sen, with notably the former handicap 9 and semi-finalist of the Argentinean Open (with Pilara), Santiago Chavanne. Amanara clearly won her two matches against Le Pommeray(11-8) and Sainte-Mesme (9-4), who lost so her second match of the tournament.
See you now on Friday for three more matches: Talandracas who will face this Dutch team Amanara (15H00); at 13H00, neither Majoa Paris nor Sainte Mesme will have the right to make a mistake; and at 16H30, it will be hot for Marquard Media, undefeated for the moment, who will meet... Les Lions Panarea: Another great day in perspective. Abandon your offices and come to Chantilly!
