Talandracas, 20 ans après !
Deuxième victoire dans l’Open de France pour Édouard Carmignac et son équipe Talandracas et ses joueurs magiques qu’il recrute au plus haut niveau argentin.
Vingt ans après une première et unique victoire jusqu’alors, Talandracas remporte somptueusement cette 22ème édition de l’Open de France Engel & Völkers. Quel match ! À l’image d’un tournoi magique qui nous a offert tout au long de ces dix-huit jours des rencontres absolument fabuleuses, notamment depuis les quarts de finales, ces matchs couperet où le faux-pas n’était plus permis. Cet Open s’achève donc avec la consécration d’une équipe mythique, d’une jument fabuleuse nommée Peregrino La Banda « Bandita » et de Juan-Martin Zubia désigné MVP, sacré meilleur homme du match… et avec un peu de tristesse car on aurait voulu que ce tournoi extraordinaire ne s’arrête jamais !

Avant de revenir sur les détails de cette finale, il convient de saluer le travail du club, et notamment de son directeur et capitaine des jeux, Philippe Perrier : grâce à eux, l’Open de France Engel & Völkers fait désormais résolument partie des trois plus grands tournois d’Europe, preuve en sont le nombre d’équipes engagées (16) et de joueurs du Top 40 mondial (11) au sein de ces formations toutes unanimes pour apprécier la qualité de l’organisation, de l’accueil et des terrains.
Celui de la finale, « l’Honneur 1 » a donc permis, devant 2 000 spectateurs, un nombre record, d’offrir un grand match que Talandracas a immédiatement pris en main sans vraiment se laisser inquiéter par Los Dragones qui semblaient aujourd’hui un peu tétanisés par l’enjeu. Jamais l’équipe de Chantilly n’a eu l’occasion d’inquiéter celle de Deauville qui s’est tout de suite détachée au score jusqu’à avoir sept goals d’avance à la fin de la dernière période. La clé de cette domination : l’entente incroyable entre les deux jeunes argentins de Talandracas, Rufino Bensadon (4 goals) et Juan Martin Zubia (6 goals dont un incroyable golaso(photo) à plus de 80 mètres à droite des buts) et nommé meilleur homme du match : « Contrairement aux apparences, ce ne fut pas une victoire facile, tenait à souligner Zubia. Ils ont un peu dormi au début, mais après, le combat a été rude. C’était une équipe compliquée qui avait gagné tous ses matchs en phase qualificative ce qui n’était pas notre cas et nous étions préparé à une finale ardue. Notre force a été que notre équipe est montée en puissance depuis Deauville et mon entente avec Rufino s’est renforcée au fil des matchs et à la fin nous nous comprenions complètement. Mais Huguito (Hugues Carmignac) et Édouard ont également élevé leur niveau de jeu depuis le début du mois d’août et nous ont bien aidés dans cette victoire ». Le jeune Argentin, qui fait partie de cette exceptionnelle génération montante en son pays, découvrait cet Open de France Engel & Völkers pour la première fois : « C’est un tournoi formidable, très compétitif. Chaque match se gagnait par un ou deux goals de différence… même si ce n’a pas été pas le cas aujourd’hui, je ne sais pas ce qu’il s’est passé, mais c’est vraiment un tournoi de très haut niveau ».

Si Zubia a été logiquement sacré MVP, Hugues Carmignac a été nommé meilleur joueur amateur de cette finale : « … parmi trois joueurs amateurs, pas si mal », ironisait et relativisait l’intéressé surtout très heureux d’avoir remporté ce titre avec son père, auteur d’un back décisif permettant à Bensadon d’inscrire un goal : « C’est un grand moment d’émotion. Ce match aurait dû être plus compliqué que cela car en face, nous avions quatre très très bons joueurs, je ne sais pas trop ce qu’il s’est passé de leur côté, mais dès le début du match, notre équipe a très bien fonctionné. Quand nous sommes arrivés à Deauville, l’équipe ne se connaissait pas vraiment bien et à force de jouer ensemble, l’équipe s’est construite et est arrivée particulièrement bien rodée pour cette finale ».
Talandracas au palmarès de l’Open de France, c’est une très belle nouvelle ligne qui s’écrit dans l’histoire de ce tournoi de plus en plus prestigieux. Talandracas est en effet l’équipe française qui détient le plus beau palmarès, six Coupes d’Or à Deauville, une Queen’s Cup à Windsor et désormais un deuxième Open de France.

Open de France : La Reine Hazel
Les Anglaises Hazel Jackson et Rebecca Walters n’ont pas manqué leur rendez-vous en menant leur équipe Rouge Absolu Paris à la victoire dans le 12ème Open de France féminin face à la formation française DS Automobile 3F. Pourtant, la doyenne du polo mondial, Caroline Anier aura tout donné et se sera battue comme un beau diable pour tenir tête aux Anglaises. Pourtant, cette équipe entièrement tricolore avait le potentiel de tirer son épingle du jeu face aux Britanniques mais Hazel Jackson était partout, récupérant 80% des duels et envoyant Rebecca Walters, nommée MVP de cette finale, aux goals.

Le Trophée Castel pour Audaz
Dernière finale de la journée, celle du Trophée Castel, concluait cette magnifique journée avec une victoire du team Audaz menée par Brieuc Rigaux (troisième victoire de la saison en cinq finales) dans un match tout aussi serré et palpitant que ceux que nous a offerts ce mémorable Open de France 2022.
Jeb, un pur-sang américain appartenant et joué par Brieuc Rigaux, remporte la couverture du meilleur cheval de la finale.
TALANDRACAS 20 YEARS LATER!
Twenty years after their first and only victory until today, Talandracas wins the 22nd edition of the Engel & Völkers French Open in a magnificent way. A final as great as this magical tournament that offered throughout eighteen days one fabulous game after the other, especially since the quarter finals where no misstep was allowed. This Open ends with the triumph of a mythical team, Talandracas, of a fabulous mare, Peregrino La Banda "Bandita" and of a rising star, Juan-Martin Zubia. It is almost sad to see this extraordinary tournament come to an end.
Before getting into the details of this final, it is important to applaud the work of the club, and in particular its director and polo manager, Philippe Perrier. It is thanks to them that the Open de France Engel & Völkers has now found its place as one of the three biggest tournaments in Europe. Proof of this is the number of teams engaged (16) and the amount of the top 40 players (11) within these formations. All of which were unanimous in their appreciation of the welcome, the quality of the organisation and the grounds.
In front of a record 2,000 spectators, the final taking place on "Honneur 1" offered a great game that Talandracas immediately took control of without really worrying about Los Dragones, who seemed to be a bit stunned by what was at stake. The Chantilly team never had the opportunity to put pressure on the Deauville team, which immediately broke away and had a seven-goal lead at the end of the last chukker. The key to this domination was the incredible understanding between the two young Argentinian players from Talandracas, Rufino Bensadon (handicap 4) and Juan Martin Zubia (handicap 6). With notably an incredible neck shot from more than 80 yards on the right side of the goal, he was unmistakably named most valuable player: "Contrary to appearances, it wasn't an easy victory," Zubia stressed. They were a little slow at the beginning, but afterwards it was a hard fight. They were a complicated team that had won all their games in the qualifying phase, which was not the case for us, and we were prepared for a tough final. Our strength was that our team has grown stronger since Deauville as did my understanding with Rufino with each game. In the end, we understood each other perfectly. But Huguito (Hugues Carmignac) and Edouard have also raised their game since the beginning of August and helped us a lot in this victory." The young Argentinean, who is part of the exceptional rising generation of his country, discovered this Open de France Engel & Völkers for the first time: "It is a great tournament, very competitive. Every game was won by one or two goals... even if it wasn't the case today, I don't know what happened, but it's really a very high-level tournament.”
If Zubia was logically crowned MVP, Hugues Carmignac was named best amateur player of this final: "... out of three amateur players, not so bad", he commented ironically although he was very happy to have won this title with his father, author of a decisive back allowing Bensadon to score a goal: "It is a very emotional moment. This game should have been more complicated than that because we had four very good players on the other side, I don't know what happened with them, but from the beginning of the game, our team worked very well. When we arrived in Deauville at the beginning of August, we didn't know each other that well and by playing together, the team built itself up and arrived particularly well prepared for this final.”
Talandracas' addition to the French Open's list of winners is a very nice addition to the history of this increasingly prestigious tournament. Talandracas is indeed the French team with the greatest record: six Gold Cups in Deauville, a Queen's Cup and now a second Open de France
FRENCH WOMEN'S OPEN: QUEEN HAZE
England's Hazel Jackson and Rebecca Walters did not miss their moment by leading their team Rouge Absolu Paris to victory in the 12th French Women's Open against France’s team DS Automobile 3F. However, the doyenne of world polo, Caroline Anier, gave it her all and fought like hell to hold off the English. Her all-French team had the potential to do well against the British but Hazel Jackson was everywhere, winning 80% of the duels and sending Rebecca Walters, named MVP of this final, to the goal.
The last final of the day, the Castel Trophy, concluded this beautiful day with a victory for the Audaz team in a game just as tight and exciting as those offered to us by this memorable Open de France 2022.
